Every year, WebAIM tests the home pages of the top million websites. In 2026, 96% had problems for people with a disability.
The most common problem is pale text on a pale background. It was on 84% of home pages. It is hard to read for people with poor eyesight. It is also hard to read in bright sun.
Missing picture descriptions were on 53% of home pages. A blind person uses a screen reader. It reads the description out loud. With no description, they hear nothing useful.
Most of these problems are easy to fix. Use dark text on a light background. Describe every picture. Let people zoom in.
